Dentist Brain Candy

The podcast is designed for the dentist who likes to learn and improve their practice. The information and content delivered is designed to help the restorative dentist move their practice forward. Each week we start off with an quote that gets the metal gears turning, a book review which will be digested for the listener over a series of episodes pulling out relevant material and applying it to the dental practice. Next an article will be reviewed from the literature and available for download. The show will close with an interesting case that I have come across. Pictures and radiographs, when appropriate will be on the website to review as well. The benefits include having a virtual dental buddy that you can listen to and “hang out with” and talk shop and grow your experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for our profession.

This week I chat with Patrick Jenkins, a friend of mine, and a wealth management advisor.  We talk about the importance of being aware of tax implication of investments and how that erode and even destroy returns.  We discuss how with 10% historic returns with the S and P 500 that if taxes were not managed appropriately the real return on your investment is 0% (or worse).  This starting news and advice on what to do about it is revealed today.

Last week was so good with John Maxwell I decided to do more from this fella.  The fourth installment of Crucial Conversations is discussed and then an article on protocols for anticoagulants on dental and oral surgery patients is reviewed.  The interesting case is about a young lady with congenitally missing lateral incisors and the bone grafting technique using Augma to replace this missing bone.

John Maxwell gets three quotes for the day getting you through Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  You are on your own for Tuesday and Thursday!  Anyone that extracts teeth has patients with dry sockets or fibrinolytic alveolitis and would like to avoid them.  I discuss using Tranexamic acid to do just that.  Just in case that was not enough value for ya we then go into modifying growth and trying to convert a Class III skeletal relationship with TAD’s.  This interesting case shows some cool pics of this jaw surgery at www.dentistbraincandy.com
