Dentist Brain Candy

The podcast is designed for the dentist who likes to learn and improve their practice. The information and content delivered is designed to help the restorative dentist move their practice forward. Each week we start off with an quote that gets the metal gears turning, a book review which will be digested for the listener over a series of episodes pulling out relevant material and applying it to the dental practice. Next an article will be reviewed from the literature and available for download. The show will close with an interesting case that I have come across. Pictures and radiographs, when appropriate will be on the website to review as well. The benefits include having a virtual dental buddy that you can listen to and “hang out with” and talk shop and grow your experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for our profession.

In this episode I start off with a wise quote from Dr. Suess and move quickly into a reminder that Gordon Christensen is coming to Spokane Oct 27, 2017.  The final part of Meetings Suck by Cameron Herold is done hopefully giving you the tools to make sure your meetings do not suck.  I met this nice fella through the emergency room from an ATV accident who sustained a right mandible fracture and right zygoma fracture as well as an ear laceration.  The ear laceration was repaired by the emergency room and I noted that after the sutures were removed and the head wrap was removed that there was a hematoma.  I proceeded to evacuate the hematoma and the patient did well with all of his injuries post operatively.

A great QOD starts us off and a challenge to invite 3 people and show them this podcast to get our listenership to over 3000 by September.  Gordon Christensen is coming to Spokane WA and you are all invited to come by emailing me at info@dentistbraincandy.com

11 angry women, or classically referred to as an angry herd of women assaulted my patient and she sustained a right orbital floor fracture with entrapment.  I reconstructed it with a transconjunctival approach using Medpor with titanium mesh.  Check it out at www.dentistbraincandy.com

Interesting Case Button

This week I start off with no less than three Polish Proverbs!  That's right three!  We then move on the Part 2 of Meetings Suck by Cameron Herold.  From there I discuss Safety Concepts in Anesthetic Management with an emphasis on Ketamine.  The interesting case is that of a custom healing abutment that I fabricated with extraction of number 8 and an immediate implant.

In this episode, I start off with a Bulgarian quote of the day because I know one quote last week is just not enough. After a few I cemented in getting things started with a Bulgarian “of the day.  I then move on to Part 1 of the book review of Meeting Suck by Cameron Harold.  Anybody in a work environment either has to hold meetings Or go to meetings and everybody needs to listen and know this information.  I then move on to a literature review from the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on central giant cell granulomas.  This gets us all up to date on some of the new novel approaches and factoids in a very direct, rapid fire manner.  The interesting case is worth a visit to the website to check out the pictures and radiographs.  This crazy wisdom tooth with a large cyst was up at the floor of the orbit on the right side and was removed, biopsied and came back as a dentigerous cyst.  Patient is fantastic during and after the procedure.

Thursday of last week was an interesting day and I thought I’d share what I was up to that day.  I completed a Le Fort I procedure and did a modification of her previously LeFort I that needed some expansion after some poor healing. The cuts of wisdom teeth as well and then I had an interesting trauma case that ATV accident with a right zygoma and the right mandible fracture.
